I will never forget a true life story concerning thoughts which i experienced while growing up. It happened during a high school holiday.I had gone to my sister's place to spend the time partly because of the goodies and especially because there will be less house chores to do. While i was there, i was sent on errand to buy some eggs for breakfast. As she prepare to fry the eggs, she realized it would not go round the people in attendance. So, i raced out to buy additional three eggs. On my way from what was supposedly known as our African neighborhood groceries store, I was holding the eggs in a nylon/plastic bag. I walked by an uncompleted plot of land with a dilapidated fence. As I was passing by, a thought crossed my mind. It was a negative thought of opening the nylon/plastic bags and throwing the eggs at the fence of this plot of land around. Instantly, the nylon/plastic bag broke under my hand. And all the eggs fell out of the bag to the roadside. I was shocked. Alarmed, I wept. I continued to weep until i walked through the gate of my sister's house. "What was the matter? Why weeping so loud?" My sister was so embarrassed by my tears. Being a very kind and generous sister, she did not bother about the eggs. But i wondered and pondered on what had happened. Why would my thought break some eggs? Why will the invisible create an effect in the visible realm? That was the reason behind my tears. More than some broken eggs, i was more concerned about the power of my thoughts. How could my thoughts be so powerful? Who am I? My sister did not know about my thought. The precedent of the broken eggs. But i knew and understood the full story. It was my negative thought that broke the eggs. That was the reason behind my tears. It was guilt.
This story is relevant to most of us. Our prayers, our petitions, our supplications, all follow our thought patterns. As we think, we are praying. As we ponder on something, we are making petitions. We are always commanding the angels!
"In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire." (Hebrews 1:7).
Heavens does not move without a purpose. The host of God does not run aimlessly! God's angels share certain principles in their mode of operations. This is why we need to study them. It is therefore important to know about the angels. The study of Satan is incomplete without the study of angels and the study of angels is incomplete without the study of demons (fallen angels who rebelled in heaven and were cast down to earth (Revelation 12:7).
Angels carry our prayers in form of petitions to the throne of God. And they bring the reply to the petitions back to us from God. "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them."(Daniel 10:12). It is therefore an error to command the angels wrongly. They bid the Father's command and minister to us. They do not "understand" jokes, errors or omissions of requests.
"Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?" (Ecclesiastes 5:6).
Commanding an angel wrongly is like attempting to post a letter without a postage stamp. But in this case penalty is even greater. It is beyond having your letter returned to you with an inscription that says: "return to the sender!" The consequence here is the jeopardy of the work of your hands! That is why you cannot say, what you do not want to see happen with your mouth. For instance you cannot afford to think about something you do not want to see come to pass. Why because as you focus your thoughts on it, you are asking the angels to bring it to pass! When you keep mulling over something and you keep repeating it with your mouth. It does not matter whether it is positive or negative thoughts. You are requesting it to come to pass through your heart. "...He (God) has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end." (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us," (Ephesians 3:20). The focus and emphasis of your thought is as powerful as what you say. "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..." (Proverbs 23:7). So, what you do not want to happen will likely happen if you focus your thoughts on it too much. Why? because God is able to do more than what we ask or THINK. As a result of your thoughts, you are giving the angels permission to bring it to pass.
It is important to know that the demons replicate this same principles of the heavenly angels. Why? because they are fallen angels. And they used to run similar errands before their fall from heaven. Since, the scripture told us that "God's gifts and his call can never be withdrawn." (Romans 11:29). Those demons called fallen angels still carry the attributes of the heavenly angels to a large extent. And to a certain degree, they can take your "unconscious" , non-intentional petitions to the devil.
Since what the angels were taught to do in heaven is serve. What they attempt to do on earth cannot be different. Their purpose may be perverted but they still serve. The do what we ask, say, think and desire on earth. That is why you cannot command the angels without clarity of purpose and intentions. It is like playing with fire. It is an incomplete prayer to say that angels should go to war on your behalf. Go to war for what? There was war in heaven once. And those who fought the war will never tell you it was interesting. Why? because the rebellious party lost their place in heaven. And i do not think that they want to fight another war on earth and be thrown out further! So which war are you fighting? Is it the war of your ignorance or the the war of your assumption? Fight war on your behalf ? Why? And for what?
Again you cannot command the angels of God to go to work as you go to bed. They are assigned to duty posts. Leaving their place in heaven is a taboo. They must leave based on a mission. Any angel that does not keep their place will be cast out. So it is an incomplete prayer to command the angels to go to work as you go to sleep. If you are already sleeping, then, sleep in peace! You are not permitted to die or rest in peace until you have fulfilled your days! You must state exactly what you want the angels to fight over. You must state why you want them to go to war while you sleep. Do you feel that the devil is hiding behind your house waiting for you to sleep off and attack? Then, state what the angels should do about it. What is the exact work you want the angels to do? I am unsure that the devil is permitted around your territory. And if perhaps, he missed his way and got to your door, you are permitted to deal with him. He knows that he cannot cross the Bloodline. And the blood of Jesus has been shed on the cross to demarcate you from his kingdom. So he knows where to go. I think some people command the angels out of fear. And the reason they think angels should go to work to do certain things for them is because they have not discovered their rights as sons of God. Once you know your identity in Christ, you will sleep without fear of nightmare.
Just as the earthly army does not get deployed to war without a just cause, the heavenly army do not move without a purpose. They receive clarity of instruction(s). Their movements is usually within centi-seconds. Because at the name of Jesus, every kneel shall bow. Every tongue shall confess. The angels move within micro-minutes of the time-piece. And your clock is too slow to measure their timings. That is why they cannot afford to move and make mistakes. "For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment."(2 Peter 2:4).
"And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day."(Jude 1:6). As a result, accuracy is the order of God. Instructions and directions are taken very seriously by His hosts. Little wonder the scripture said that "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."(James 4:3). We were told that whatever you ask when you pray, believe that you have received it. This is because you are dealing with a courier service that does not sleep 24/7, and 365 days of the year! "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."(Mark 11:24).
"And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day."(Jude 1:6). "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."(Mark 11:24).
So here is the key points: you must state exactly what you are expecting to get accomplished through the angels when you are commanding them! Do not command His hosts without accurate intentions and clarity of purpose! What do you want from God? Do not say angels come down. Come down to do what? Some churches call all kinds of names of angels to come down when they are praying. Sorry, angels does not operate in that order. "He [Jacob] had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it." (Genesis 28:12). According to the vision of Jacob. Analysis of his dream revealed angels in movement. They are bringing answer to man's petitions from God. And they are taking man's requests up to God's throne. So, asking them to come down does not align because they are coming and going.
Again, why do you think you need the angels? Are you sure that mission you want done has not been accomplished for you already? Are they not part of the completed work of Christ on the cross? Are you sure that such requests has not been dealt with? Are you sure that concern has not been resolved in the crucifixion of Jesus over 2000years ago?
Some people are worried about their sins being the reason why God will never love them any more. Without explaining away the issue of sin; your sin is a matter that is between you and God. And you are accountable to God more about your sin than to men. Your past sins and your future sins are not enough to stop God from loving you. What shall separate us from God's love? (Romans 8:39). Christ washed away our sins on His cross over 2000 years ago. And to assure you of that, He died and rose again for your justification and redemption. "He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification." (Romans 4:25). So, where is the place of condemnation? Do not let the devil lie to you. God has forgiven you of your sin. The question is this: Do you believe this? Have you confessed Him as your Lord and Savior? If you have not done that, its time to consider receiving the free gift of salvation from God. If you have done so; then feel free to come and dine at His feet! The throne of Grace cannot be monopolized! Everyone is free to come! Draw nearer to obtain mercy in the time of need. "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (Hebrews 4:16). Feel free to drink from the river of joy. It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."(Galatians 5:1).Do not be yoked, tied down, wrapped up into sin any more. If you peradventure sinned, pray and know that you have been forgiven. You have an advocate with the Father in heaven in the person of Jesus. "My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world." (1 John 2:1).
Now, concerning the the contents of your requests and petitions. They are product of your thoughts. "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."(2 Corinthians 10:5). Are you conscious of your thoughts? Are you sure that your requests are not based upon fear? Are you sure that you are not afraid of what might happen to you during the night if you don't call the name of some angels thirty-three times before you go to sleep? Are you sure that you are not afraid of God killing you if you did not pay your tithe and offerings? Are you sure of God's love for you? Are you sure that you are not serving God in fear? Are you sure that you are not afraid of asking too much from God? Are you sure that you are asking exactly what you desire when you are praying? Are you sure that you are asking what you are thinking when in prayer?
